Intentionally Waiting

Life is a journey, and sometimes the path we desire — love, connection, and family — requires patience, faith, and intention. My “Intentionally Waiting” series is about navigating this season of waiting with purpose, hope, and strategy — not passively.

This is about actively preparing, positioning yourself, and growing while trusting in God’s plan. I’m sharing my personal journey to recreate my family and invite you to walk alongside me.

Through this series, I explore five intentional stages that guide the path from singlehood to marriage.

The first stage is attraction — connecting with someone in a meaningful way. This goes beyond physical appearance and includes personality, intelligence, and shared values.

Key Actions in This Stage:

  • Position yourself intentionally in environments where you want to meet like-minded people.
  • Observe and reflect: attraction may develop over multiple encounters.
  • Stay authentic: don’t force yourself into situations that don’t align with who you are.

At this stage, I’m actively engaging in life, going on dates, and exploring connections while listening to God’s guidance.

Stage 2: Intention

Once attraction is established, the intention stage begins. Here, you clarify your values and expectations — both yours and your potential partner’s.

Key Actions in This Stage:

  • Evaluate compatibility: align lifestyle, family goals, faith, and priorities.
  • Define your vision: consider where you want to be in the next season of life.
  • Engage with purpose: deliberate steps help shape the future of your relationship.

Intention is about moving beyond attraction to explore whether a deeper, purposeful connection is possible.

Stage 3: Commitment

Commitment is when you focus on one person, investing your time, energy, and heart into building something meaningful together.

Key Actions in This Stage:

  • Stop multi-tracking: focus your attention on this one connection.
  • Test the relationship: observe how you interact, problem-solve, and support each other.
  • Grow together: strengthen trust, communication, and alignment of life goals.

This stage requires honesty, patience, and intentional action to lay a foundation for a lifelong partnership.

Stage 4: Engagement

Engagement marks the point of serious partnership, preparing for marriage.

Key Actions in This Stage:

  • Integrate families and friends to see how relationships blend.
  • Plan together: align logistics, values, and expectations for the future.
  • Celebrate milestones: engagement is a joyful period of preparation, reflection, and connection.

Engagement tests resilience, communication, and adaptability while deepening your bond.

Stage 5: Marriage

Marriage is the culmination of intentional waiting and preparation, but also the start of a new chapter.

Key Actions in This Stage:

  • Formalize your commitment through the marriage ceremony.
  • Build a strong foundation for your family and shared life.
  • Continue growth: intentional waiting evolves into creating a thriving, loving family.

Every stage requires faith, self-awareness, and trust in God’s timing. By intentionally navigating these stages, you’re actively shaping your path to love, purpose, and fulfillment.
